I am (at the moment) living in Middlesbrough with my lovely nursing student friends for University. When I was only diagnosed with dyslexia at the age of 26, and just starting out in my career as a student nurse but me and my family have always known I have had dyslexia since I was little, but none of my schools wanted to test me for it.
So many times when people have asked what I wanted to do with my life, I have always wanted to be a nurse, and I would get a reply back saying “your dyslexic, you can’t be a nurse” or “your to stupid to be a nurse”. So, I believed them and went into a career that I hated (not that I regret this, because i have met some amazing people), until my family told me I needed to follow my dreams and do what I want to do in life!
Having dyslexia just means you learn differently to everyone else, and there is software or people out there to help!
This just means we are unique, just like all the other student nurses out there!
